Introduction

Immersea ("we", "our", or "us") is a language-learning app built around content you choose — videos, podcasts, and text. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

2

Data we collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account information: email address and authentication details when you sign in. Sign in with Apple or Google may also provide your name for your account profile.
  • Learning profile: target language, onboarding preferences, and speech settings (voice, speed).
  • Content you provide: YouTube links, pasted text, uploaded audio or video files, podcast URLs, and optional subtitle files.
  • Learning activity: saved vocabulary, lesson history, progress, continue-learning state, practice history, and streaks synced to your account.
  • Technical and usage data: user ID when signed in, device or installation identifiers, and product interaction data (such as screens viewed and features used). We do not request GPS or device location permissions. Analytics providers may infer an approximate region (such as country) from your IP address only.
  • Subscription data: purchase history and subscription status (via Apple and our subscription provider).
3

How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Provide core features: captions, translations, word definitions, pronunciation, and your vocabulary library.
  • Personalize your experience (language pair, speech preferences, resume where you left off).
  • Improve reliability and product quality through first-party analytics.
  • Manage subscriptions and restore purchases.
  • Send essential service messages (account verification, security notices, and support replies).
  • Schedule local learning reminders on your device. These notifications are created on your device; we do not receive notification content on our servers.
4

Third-party content

When you play YouTube videos or open external links, those services process data under their own policies. We do not control third-party platforms. Use content you have the right to learn from and follow applicable platform terms.

5

Analytics

We use PostHog for first-party product analytics — for example onboarding steps, paywall interactions, and feature usage. This helps us understand how the app is used and improve it.

What analytics may include

When you are signed in, analytics events may be linked to your user ID. We may also use a device or installation identifier. We do not send your email address to PostHog.

What we do not do

We do not show third-party advertisements in the app. We do not use the Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA), App Tracking Transparency for cross-app tracking, or similar advertising tracking. We do not sell your data to data brokers, and we do not use your learning content for cross-app advertising.

6

Third-party services

We rely on trusted providers to operate the app:

  • Supabase: authentication, database, and secure storage for account and uploaded content.
  • PostHog: first-party product analytics.
  • RevenueCat and Apple In-App Purchase: subscription billing and purchase restore (we do not receive your payment card details).
  • OpenAI and Google Gemini: word definitions, explanations, and AI-assisted processing, processed server-side where configured.
  • Google: translation, cloud text-to-speech, and transcription where applicable, processed server-side.
  • YouTube (Google): embedded playback when you choose a YouTube lesson.
  • Apple and Google: sign-in authentication (OAuth).
7

Data retention and deletion

Data is stored securely while your account is active. You can delete your account from Profile → Account → Delete account. Deletion removes associated profile and synced learning data from our systems.

8

Your rights

Depending on your region, you may request access, correction, export, or deletion of your personal data. Contact us and we will respond within a reasonable time.
